An aversion to bare soil

For someone with such an aversion to bare soil January is a testing time. I could apply a decorative mulch of course but as I plant recklessly close together the tessellated rings of slate chippings or gravel would resemble craters on the moon so my favourite method, starting in autumn, is to fashion a decorative earthy surface of fallen, shredded (or mown) leaves instead. If you're careful enough about it no-one will suspect man's hand at all, which is just how I like it.
